Sustaining Your Operations and
the Environment with AdBlue

UD Trucks is committed to taking care of the environment while promoting sustainability through innovative engineering.

With the future in mind, UD Trucks has utilized a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system in its trucks. By integrating this equipment into its trucks, UD Trucks has made its units adhere to strict emissions regulations, enabling their trucks to be classified as Euro 5. But it doesn’t end there, UD Trucks uses AdBlue for its vehicles, allowing the machine to be more sustainable for the environment.

In this article, we dive into UD Trucks’ partner fluid, AdBlue, and what this fluid can do for your vehicle in terms of performance and environmental impact.

Simple, Clean, and Reliable (SCR)

The Selective Catalytic Reduction system was engineered to be simple, clean, and reliable. This emissions treatment system aims to reduce harmful pollutants that are produced during combustion. It’s also less sensitive to fuel quality, making your engine more durable to fuel formulation changes.

An SCR injects precise amounts of AdBlue into the exhaust system to neutralize the harmful nitrogen emissions. The SCR system also does not recirculate gas back into the engine, which can lead to engine failure.

Additionally, this system requires no additional maintenance, unlike other environmentally friendly systems.

AdBlue

The liquid that decreases harmful nitrogen emissions is AdBlue. AdBlue is a fluid that’s made of deionized water and urea, which is what gets sprayed into the vehicle’s exhaust system to minimize environmental impact. Essentially, it’s the hero of this process but, how exactly does it do that?

AdBlue is a non-toxic fluid that’s odorless and colorless, which works with SCR. This fluid is injected into the SCR and it converts nitrogen oxide to harmless nitrogen and water. Initially, this fluid was engineered to help modern diesel cars adhere to strict emissions regulations. Now, it has become the standard for new diesel vehicles everywhere.

Through the use of SCR and AdBlue, a vehicle can have 60% less Nitrogen Oxide emissions and 80% less particulate matter emissions than Euro 3 levels. Clearly, AdBlue is here to stay and truck manufacturers must innovate to include these systems in their products.

Nowadays, vehicles that use AdBlue are equipped with sensors that allow their operators to easily monitor and maintain optimum AdBlue levels. This is done by adding an AdBlue section on the vehicle’s dashboard.

While logistics operators may fear the cost of AdBlue, this fluid is economically friendly and can go a long way. In fact, for every 100 L of diesel, only four to five liters of AdBlue is needed.

Cost of Ownership

The cost of owning your unit significantly decreases because of the combined efforts of the SCR system and AdBlue. These two items lead to lower servicing requirements while increasing the durability of your trucks.

In addition to that, your truck gains a higher power and torque output without needing to increase the engine’s size. So, you can do more even if your engine weighs the same.

With the UD Trucks’ enhanced features, you’re sure to have longer service intervals and consistent performance. No surprises, no unplanned stops, and ultimate dependability.
